The hearings on the criminal case were held at the Maskouski District Court of Minsk since 28 September till 12 October. The trial was led by Judge Alena Rudnitskaya with the participation of prosecutor of the Maskouski District Procuracy of Minsk Siarkou as the state accuser.

Mr. Baranovich was charged under Article 293, part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, “direct participation in mass riot” for participation in the peaceful protest rally on 19 December 2010 in Minsk.

Belarusian Helsinki Committee appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office on the fact of the statement of the presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov about applying to torture him in the KGB jail.

Human rights activists asked to conduct a thorough check and make a criminal case on the grounds of articles providing for liability for abuse of power and the use of violence by persons in official status, to prosecute perpetrators and to report on the audit results.

Minsk City Court has not changed the sentences pronounced to Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, Dzmitry Novik and Alyaksandr Malchanau imprisoned for participation in the Square.

Human rights defenders monitor the criminal cases that were instigated in connection with the action of protest connected with the presidential election. As of 4 February, the Human Rights Center Viasna knows the surnames of 38 accused in the criminal case on mass riot (26 of them are kept in custody, 2 persons are under house arrest and 9 more have been released on recognizance not to leave. 12 more are suspects in the case – 2 of them are abroad and the overwhelming majority had to give written recognizances not to leave the country. 4 people have been sentenced to different terms in jail so far.
