BHC provided information to the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons, which is a partial answer to its request to prepare a thematic Human Rights Council in 2023 on violence, abuse and neglect of older persons.
In the report we revealed that at least 40 elderly people are now imprisoned for political reasons, 5 of whom are over the age of 70.
On October 18, 2022, the Secretary General of the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BORC), doctor Dzmitry Shautsou, spoke on the STV channel about gender identity and sexual orientation. His comment contained discriminatory and stigmatizing theses, in particular, that "non-traditional relationships between the sexes" are a "mental illness" that "needs to be treated."
The Belarusian Helsinki Committee informed the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus about numerous cases of prosecution of lawyers in Belarus.
In particular, the UN special procedures were informed about the detention of Alexander Danilevich, who was arrested on May 20 and is still in detention.
