The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Viasna and the undersigned organizations call on the Belarusian authorities to stop the execution of German national Rico Krieger, sentenced to death in Belarus on 24 June 2024.
The BHC sent information to the Special Rapporteur on the situation with human rights in Belarus on the adoption by the House of Representatives in the first reading of the draft Law “On Amending Codes on Criminal Liability”. The draft law proposes to amend the sanction of part 2 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code, providing for the possibility of imposing the death penalty for treason against the state committed by an official holding a public position or a person covered by the status of a military man.
The BHC has sent information to the Special Rapporteurs on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism and on the human rights situation in Belarus on amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, which provide for the expansion of the possibilities for the use of the death penalty.
